Interior Decorating

Overview

Most of what people call interior design is really architecture — walls, windows, stone. Interior decorating is the other half: the sofa that holds the room together, the light that makes you stay in it, the art that makes you want to show it to someone.

Interior decorating as a standalone engagement is for homes whose architecture is already settled — a recent purchase, an inherited estate, a house designed by someone else. You don't need us to redraw the walls. You need us to choose the twelve things that will define how the house feels to live in.

Our decorating engagements stay true to the studio's sourcing standards: vintage and antique when the character requires it, bespoke when it doesn't exist yet, thoughtful contemporary when the room wants ease. Every piece is specified, procured, received, inspected, and installed through our Summerland receiver.

We do not decorate to a magazine brief. We decorate to a way of living — how you read, how you host, how you work, how you age. The result tends to be quieter than what you expect, and it tends to last longer than what you've bought before.

How we engage

3 ways to start.

Option 01

Single-Room Residency

A living room, a library, a primary suite. Three- to six-month engagement, end-to-end. Often the start of a longer relationship.

Option 02

Whole-Home Refresh

For homes we didn't design but whose owners want one point of accountability for everything inside the walls. Twelve-month engagement typical.

Option 03

Art-Only Residency

Collection-building and placement for clients whose interior architecture is already resolved.

Typical engagement

Fees are a blend of hourly studio time and a transparent procurement markup, both disclosed in the engagement letter. No hidden designer discounts; no kickbacks.
